This month’s Wax Seal of the Month is a true standout: an elegant oval featuring an owl perched on a branch. Paired with the bead mix of black, silver, white, and gold, it opens up endless possibilities for dramatic fall and Halloween projects.
For today’s card, I wanted to create a full storybook night scene — something magical, moody, and just a little bit spooky.

✨ The Scene
I started with the Layered Moon Stencil Set to build the glowing harvest moon. Using Distress Oxide inks, I layered warm yellows, soft grays, and subtle shading to give it both dimension and light. Around the moon, I blended purples and deep blues to create a rich night sky that feels alive.
Then came the spooky tree silhouette. For the first time, I used traceable paper to outline the silhouette of a spooky tree, hen colored it in with a black alcohol marker to create that bold silhouette.
Finally, the star of the show: I created the wax seal owl and carefully cut it out, placing it on the branch so it appears to be silhouetted against the moonlight. This little detail brought the entire scene together in the most unexpected way.
This simple experiment with traceable paper completely elevated the design — it added dimension, control, and so much drama. I love how it brought the whole scene together in a way I hadn’t tried before.
The Wax Seal Club continues to be my favorite because it pushes me to think outside the box, and this project is proof of how versatile wax seals can be. They’re not just embellishments — they can become part of a story, part of a scene, and part of the artistry of the card itself. And this month’s owl design couldn’t have been more perfect for it.
This card was such a joy to create, from inking the glowing sky to adding the final owl detail. It reminded me how much fun it is to play, experiment, and let a scene unfold one layer at a time. I hope it inspires you to try something new with your own projects this season.
