Level 2, Lesson 6 – Beautiful Details with Marika Rahtu

Level 2, Lesson 6 – Beautiful Details with Marika Rahtu

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well this fine Tuesday! Today’s card is about beautiful details and it is taught by Marika Rahtu who is an amazing artist!

If you are interested in taking this class, you can totally do so by going to Altenew website and pick this class. I highly recommend it! Marika is a master of coloring and patience I must say so. Her work is truly impeccable and she makes everything so easy. But is it? Hmmm, I don’t think so… but that is just me.

It was truly hard to pick just one project inspiration from this class for all of Marika work is truly one of a kind. What stood out to me was the stamp set that she used. I actually had that stamp set for a very long time now and I’ve never used it, so I decided to give it a try for the very first time!

This is Marika’s fabulous work and my inspiration for today. To create this card she used watercolors and when done watercoloring she added details using color pencils. And for more interest she added some red ink blending at the bottom of the card. Just stunning!

My project inspiration comes from two amazing creators: Marika Rahtu and Therese Calvird. Marika totally inspired the color theme and helped with which stamp set to use and Therese helped with the overall design. I was just looking at some inspirations online and when I saw Therese’s video, I new I had to try the technique that she used in her video tutorial. If you would like to check out her video, please click HERE.

Part One – Inspired by Marika

I started off by creating masks out of masking paper so I can have everything ready before I start stamping. For stamping I used Lotus stamp set by Altenew. To stamp these images I used a MISTI stamping tool, and for good three reasons, first, in case I needed to double stamp, second it helps with layering and mass producing and third, I can stamp multiple images at once, with most definitely saves time. For stamping these images I used Permanent Black Dye Ink by Altenew, and I would also like to mention that both layers are stamped with this ink. After my stamping was done, it was time to put some color to these images. As Marika did to color her design, I also chose warm greys to color in my images. I used Copic Alcohol markers W1, W3 and W5. For adding details and some color as well, I used Blushed Pink (PC 928) color pencil by Prismacolor. As this was my little contrast of color that was inspired by Marika’s red ink blending on the bottom of her design. And this wraps up this part.

Part Two – Inspired by Therese Calvird

This lesson is all about detail, and by my standards details are not only in drawings and coloring, but also in intricate techniques and materials we use. As Therese did in her video tutorial, I also used Wonky Frame Dies by Mama Elephant. I had these frames probably for a good 3 years and they have been used once one or twice… So, what better way to use them? I carefully positioned both of the frames in the middle of the panel and secured them with pieces of washi tape and run it through my die cutting machine. As you can see it in the image above, I ended up with three die cuts. And it was time for assembly. I cut some fun foam strips before hand and glued it to the back of the middle die cut. I then attached everything to the base, added some pale pink crystals for some more detail and interest, and the card was done!

And this is my way of creating a Beautiful Detail Card my way: Simple and Quick! I love how this turned, a minimalistic card and yet so full of details and honesty a card that is perfect for any occasion.

Please let me know what you think in the comment section below. And I will see you soon with a brand new post!

Cheers!
