Hello everyone and welcome back. I hope you are doing well and that your week is off with a good start.
I am so super exited to have started the final level of Altenew Educator Certification Program or AECP for short. This final level is going to be super cool and fun, and most certainly the most interesting and different and I will be pushing my creative boundaries even further. There are only 5 classes total and of course, at the end will be a “grand finale”, so stay tuned for that one.
Today, for the first class I chose a class called “Cards in Motion” and it was held by super talented and creative Ashley Tucker. I am so blown away by this class and I highly recommend it for all of you card makers or for you who are thinking of becoming one. A truly fun class with a lot of tips and tricks for making interactive cards.
Supplies used in today’s card:
Altenew Products:
Other:
- Spellbinders Platinum 8 Die Cutting Machine
- ScorPal Score Board
- MISTI Stamp Tool
- Tonic Studio Paper Trimmer
- Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lbs. card-stock
- Lawn Fawn Clear Acetate
- Art Glitter Glue
- Scissors, embellishments, bone folder, exacto knife, pick tool
As always, I started off with drawing a little sketch of my card. This helps me stay on track and also helps with which steps I need to take. So the first step was cutting the paper and then scoring using a ScorPal scoring board. I then made a first die cut. This will be turned into a shaker part, and the middle of it is going to create a slider that a recipient can pull up and reveal a message. I carefully measured and cut paper for the slider and acetate for the shaker. I then used a strong double side tape to adhere acetate to the die cut and to make sure that acetate is adhered straight I like to use my score board and put it in the corner and then just simply glue the acetate. This assures that the peaces are going to be attached straight and this is especially useful when using double sided tape. I then die cut a bunch of frames and trim off the insides with scissors; the reason I did this was because I needed to create a “well” for embellishments for the shaker element. I then glued all the frames together added embellishments and “sandwich” them in with another piece of acetate.
Next step was creating a mechanism for a slider element. I first marked the paper where I wanted to cut it and I simply used a ruler and an exacto knife to cut the opening for the slider. To create opening on the slider part, I used an old die from Sizzix, and cut and glued strips of paper to help guide the slider; next I glued an additional strip on the slider to help prevent it from coming out completely and the strip will also help for the slider to keep on track and not wobble once pulled up.
Then, it was time to add and color the image to the slider. For this I used the Poppy Stamp Set from Altenew and I stamped it with Permanent Black Ink also from Altenew. To color my image I used Copic markers and for the background I used a super light grey marker by Spectrum Noir. I used a white gel pen to add detail to the image and on top of the tab I added “pull here” sign from a stamp set by Lawn Fawn. For the “hidden” message I used “Beautiful Inside” stamp set from Altenew, and after the coloring was done I simply put my slider in between the railings that I created earlier and closed the top of the “pocket”. I then put the double sided adhesive on the back of the shaker and glued it to the top of the slider. I then generously applied liquid glue all over the back of my shaker/slider piece and attached it onto the 5×7 card base. And the card was done!
Now, this might look complicated, but, trust me, it is truly a simple thing to make once you know what to do. The shaker element was extra and you can definitely create a slider card without a shaker element, I just wanted to give more interest to the card and I believe I’ve achieved it.
What do you think?
Thank you so much for visiting me today and thank you so much for your support!
See you soon with a new post,
Cheers!

Thank you Erum, I love how this card turned out. I think I will have to make a new one cause this one was already been sent to a very special person. Such a fun class, btw.
