Hello crafty friends and happy April 10!
And it indeed is happy and excited. Today is a brand new new release of a BRAND NEW COLLECTION from Spellbinders called More Fresh Picked Collection and this collection is absolutely stunning.
The one that I am going to be playing with today is called Angel Trumpets and this die set is truly awesome! It comes with 13 thin metal cutting dies. These fun Angel Trumpet blooms will brighten up anyone’s day. This set is full of wonderful details, including leaf veins to flower centers!
There are so many different ways to use this set and I have come up with two, one is here and the other one is on my YouTube channel that you can watch and see it closely.
There was not a lot of thinking when it came to the design of this card. The first idea that most always comes to mind is a slimline card. I truly cannot help it. I know that some of you are not big fans of this size, but that is not the reason not to get this set. This set was, indeed made for A4 size cards, but I waned to show you a way to “stretch” your dies and use them a little bit different than what they were originally supposed to be.
Lately, I’ve been finding my color inspiration in Color Cubes by Sarah Renae Clark and I have to admit it has been wonderful. Once I had my colors picked up, the rest was easy.
This is why I do not feel so bad when creating bigger cards, such as slimline, I always have scrap paper to use with die cutting that pretty much nothing gets wasted. I also picked up paper from Hero Arts, called Plum. Once I had my colors picked, I went to die cutting and I doubled on flowers.
For this color combination I also used Distress Oxide Inks: Dusty Concord and Seedless Preserves; to color the leaves I used Copic RV99, and last but not the least, the petal part was colored with a marker from Spectrun Noir EB8. And I think that covers the color palette.
One tip that I would like to give you is to leave your die cuts inside the paper, color them and then take them out. This will make the coloring process much faster, especially when it comes to small, intricate pieces.
Once the coloring is done, it was time to put everything together. I find that is the easiest to assemble all the flowers together and then move to the card.
I started from bottom up, but if it’s easier, you can start arranging your flowers from the top; this is just what makes most sense to me.
Start off with the leaves and gradually add flowers. To add dimension I added foam tape to the backing of the flowers. You can skip this step if you wish your card to be flat.
I added a sentiment from Mini Everyday Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plates by Spellbinders and I trimmed it with a simple paper cutter. You can also use coordinating dies that come with the set, I just couldn’t find mine, so this seemed a good solution. To make this sentiment stand out, I doubled on foam tape. This really made a huge difference because some of my flowers are elevated and having a raised sentiment put this on another level.
And to make this card even more special, I added gold jewels for more contrast and to actually match the sentiment. I truly believe the little blink made this card so much more sophisticated and gave even more more interest.
Next, I used liquid adhesive to attach the panel to the card base, and the card was completed.
So easy and quick. Just some dies, some cool colors and imagination, a perfect combo for a successful project.
I love this card so much and this die set by Spellbinders is truly incredible.
I encourage you to head over to my YouTube channel and see a completely different design.
