oday I’m excited to share a special interactive card I created using the Spellbinders Glimmer Plate of the Month and their Wax Seal of the Month! I paired these newer monthly club kits with an older favorite die set—the Elegant Reveal Shutter Card from the February 2020 Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month collection.
Although this particular die set is no longer available, you can still see the original Spellbinders blog post about it here. It remains one of my all-time favorites because of the clever interactive shutter design.
The card base is made from deep navy cardstock, setting the perfect wintery stage for the snowflake theme. I used the Glimmer Plate of the Month to hot foil subtle snowflake panels in icy metallic tones. These are layered over white matting for a crisp, elegant contrast.
When the ribbon is untied and the panels are opened, the reveal shutter mechanism slides apart to unveil a delicate Christmas sentiment in the center: “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, glimmered in silver.
To add a unique and elegant finishing touch, I used the Spellbinders Wax Seal of the Month kit. I chose an icy blue wax to complement the snowflake theme and stamped it with their cozy knit-patterned seal for that warm, wintry feel.
Once the wax was completely cooled and hardened, I carefully used a standard hole punch to create a small opening in the center of the seal. This allowed me to thread a sheer ribbon through it, turning the wax seal into both a decorative focal point and a functional closure for the card. It holds the gatefold shut while adding dimension and a handcrafted touch that really elevates the entire presentation.
I love how this simple modification made the wax seal part of the interactive experience, not just an embellishment. It’s little details like this that make handmade cards so special!
I hope this project inspires you to mix old favorites with new Spellbinders club kits to create something truly unique. Whether it’s the magic of hot foiling or the charm of a wax seal, there’s always a way to add that special handmade touch.
