3D Embossing Folder of the Month – Patchwork Quilt Cards
There’s something about the change of seasons that makes me want to pull out the cozy textures — quilts, knits, and warm autumn colors. This month’s Spellbinders 3D Embossing Folder of the Month is exactly that: a patchwork of stitched fabric squares, each one filled with unique patterns and so much dimension.
For today’s project, I leaned all the way into the quilted look and created two sets of autumn-inspired patchwork cards.
✂️ The Process
I started by embossing panels of solid cardstock in a variety of fall-inspired colors. After running them through the folder, I trimmed the embossed squares apart so that each became a little “fabric swatch.”
Arranging them on a metallic gold background gave me the perfect backdrop — a nod to both cozy quilts and a touch of luxury. I wanted these to feel like autumn warmth but still carry that elevated Spellbinders finish.
To finish, I added the BetterPress sentiments:

Sending Autumn Cheer
Both sentiments tie perfectly into the “handmade quilt” feel — like a hug in card form.
🎨 Color Palette
I used a variety of Distress Oxide inked panels to get rich seasonal shades: Wild Honey, Stormy Sky, Espresso, Rustic Wilderness, Crackling Campfire and Aged Mahogany.
This mix keeps the quilt look lively but still cohesive..
🌟 Why I Love This Folder
The magic of this embossing folder is in its versatility:
Cut and piece squares for a full quilted look (like I did here).
Use it as a full background for subtle stitched texture.
- Highlight the “stitching” with metallic wax or ink blending.
It’s one of those folders that adapts to any theme — autumn, cozy holiday, or even modern and graphic depending on your color choices.
🖤 Final Touch
These cards are all about texture and warmth, but also about community. Handmade cards are little quilts in paper form — stitched together with love. I can’t wait to send these out as a small way of saying thank you and spreading a little autumn cheer.
