Spellbinders August 2025 Clubs – Shimmery Fun (Square Cards)

Every month, I look forward to the new designs from the Spellbinders Clubs of the Month. They’re such a fun way to stretch creativity, try new techniques, and add fresh designs to my cardmaking. This month, I combined two of my favorites—the Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month (GOM) and the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month (3D EOM). The Glimmer kit brings all the sparkle and shine, while the 3D embossing folder adds amazing texture and dimension. Together, they inspired two very different card styles: one full of foiled shimmer and one with an underwater embossed scene.

Project 1: Foiled Shimmer with the Glimmer Club

Let’s start with the Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month, where shiny foiled accents and a little dimension take center stage. These cards were all about creating sparkle and letting the foil do the talking.

  1. Die-Cut & Foil the Centers

    • I cut squares from colored cardstock using a simple square die.

    • Each square was then foiled with the beautiful Glimmer plates from the kit.

  2. Layering & Dimension

    • The foiled squares were popped up on the card base with foam tape, giving a clean, modern look with a touch of shadow and depth.

  3. Finishing Touches

    • A sentiment strip across the foiled panel tied everything together.

    • A sprinkle of shiny embellishments added the look of bubbles or drops of light.

The navy card features a teal foiled square and the sentiment “Hope Your Day Shimmers,” while the aqua card flips the design with a navy foiled square. Both are simple, polished, and perfect for sending a little sparkle.

Project 2: Just Keep Swimming with the 3D Embossing Club

For my second card, I reached for the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month to create a playful, underwater-inspired design.

  1. Ink Blending

    • I blended Distress Oxide inks in Salvaged Patina, Peacock Feathers, and Tumbled Glass across a panel for an ocean gradient.

  2. Embossing the Waves

    • Running the inked panel through the embossing folder created raised waves full of texture and movement.

  3. Adding the Fish

    • Each fish in the design was colored with a gold gel pen, giving them a metallic shimmer against the watery background.

  4. Custom Ribbon Sentiment

    • For a unique touch, I used the PrintMaker by We R Memory Keepers (We R Makers) to customize a ribbon with the words “Just Keep Swimming.”

    • Wrapping the ribbon around the card worked beautifully as both an embellishment and a sentiment.

The result is a cheerful encouragement card that feels like a little peek under the sea, filled with shimmer and positivity.

Both of these projects show just how versatile the Spellbinders Clubs of the Month can be. The Glimmer Hot Foil Kit adds elegance and sparkle, while the 3D Embossing Folder brings incredible texture and depth. Whether you’re in the mood for shimmery sophistication or playful underwater scenes, these kits make it easy to create cards that truly stand out. I love how they can be used individually or together to spark fresh ideas month after month—and I can’t wait to see what next month brings!
